Twitter added a new search feature, and I like it. They made their mark on the blogosphere with their micro-blogs and now they are doing it again with search. When you want the most current information, and want to know what’s the buzz right now…twitter search is perfect. Up to the second results that grab what people are tweeting about. Kinda cool.
The look and feel is classic twitter minimalistic design. Big search box, great call to action, what’s popular this week, today and right now. Add a new twitter bird and you’ve got the new layout.
Who knows, with people being so hyper sensitive about the timeliness of their information- I can see an application. Thoughts?
Yahoo and Microsoft have finally teamed up to take on Google. We’ve been watching these two try and dance together for a long time and they finally are making it happen- thanks to Bing showing so strongly as of late. Together they could claim up to 25% of the search market and be a thorn in the side of Google. I love it.
Below is a snipet about Yahoo searching for it’s identity. I agree with the comments made. Hopefully this agreement will help them clearly define part of their business- because they’ve been all over the place.
If you’ve talked to me for more than 15 seconds at a time, you probably know that I love SEOmoz. We’ll Rand doesn’t disappoint with another great video whiteboard on the future of SEO.
I love how they never take a ‘this is gospel’ approach, but merely ‘it’s our opinion…smart opinion, but opinion nonetheless’. I respect that, because that’s often the nature of SEO.
I agree that high quality content is not going anywhere. Happily, that’s a big part of what we do at TK. (phew!). Also, I agree that social graph metrics will play a growing part, probably a little bit more than Rand does. It will have to be refined as not to be blatantly gamed.
I’m often asked, “If my site gets lots of traffic, this will help with search engines, right?”.
The answer is a resounding….it depends. Let’s take a look at two possible meanings and It’ll be more clear:
1. If my site gets more traffic (via PPC, my employees, etc.) then Google will see that the site is popular and rank me higher?
No. Google does not determine the popularity of your site by its number of visits, but by the number of high quality sites that link to you. The amount of traffic doesn’t directly impact your PR or Alexa score from what I’ve been able to see.
A collection of SEO’s on this forum about traffic and PR agree with me.
2. If my site is getting lots of traffic, and contains high quality content, then it is more likely to get linked to, helping my rank in search engines.
Yes. The more people you have coming to your site, the better chance you have of getting good links.
Bing seems to be making a dent. Arnold Zafra from the Search Engine Journal (one of my faves I’ll admit) keeps us updated on their steady growth. Not enough strike fear in Google I’m sure, but enough of a push to shift the search engine world? Drive momentum into cleaning up what sometimes is a bit of a cluttered user experience? It will be interesting to watch.
Open source is getting really fun! Buddypress shows just a sliver of it’s potential.
As an add-on to wordpress, it allows one to quickly create their own social site after a pretty simple install. They can build a community where members can create a blog, chat with other members, build a profile and much more. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of ideas and destinations evolve from this new (and free, of course) tool.
Take a look- it doesn’t have everything one may want, but it’s a great step in an open directions.
Welcome to your new look and feel! After spending so many years making everyone else look really good online, we decided to show our site a little love. We love feedback, so please let us know what you like and don’t like. Can you find what you’re looking for quickly?
